It seems a shame that there have, so far, been no posts in this part of the forum, so I thought I would try to kick things off by showing some of my own projects. Hopefully, others will share photos and details of their own projects. I will start with the latest one.
I have a book that was given to my mother in 1931. It is Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, by Lewis Carroll, illustrated by Betty Pease. I'm afraid to say that, during the years it has been in my possession, it seems to have deteriorated - badly, so I am now beginning to restore it. I am, by no means, an accomplished bookbinder/restorer. Many years ago, I attended an evening class at a local college for a few terms and learned the basics, and I have repaired a few books and bound a few sets of magazines into hardback volumes. I may show some photos of these later.
As of today, I have got as far as deconstructing the book and using acid-free tissue paper to repair tears and guarding signatures.
Also, there was a leaf missing from the book, so about a year ago, I managed to buy another copy from the internet so that I could copy and replace the missing pages. There were also some colour plates missing from both books, but I have been able to find the missing images on the internet to print out.
